One of the most requested features for Dissonance is reducing the echo caused by a microphone picking up it's own speaker output - Technically known as Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC). This can be achieved by having a filter which tracks all the sounds being played through the speaker and then when those sounds are detected by the microphone a short time later it removes them.
We finally have a viable AEC system which works very well in our tests so far. However AEC is a very complex topic - how effective it is can vary with a lot of factors (microphone latency, speaker latency, room size, CPU load etc). We need to test this in as many scenarios as possible before we can really call it ready for release.
If you're interested in helping to test this please email me ([email protected]) your invoice number. I'll send you back a copy of Dissonance with AEC built in. For this first test the AEC is going to be Windows only, assuming this works ok we'll quickly expand it out to all desktop platforms. Once Desktop AEC is released we'll run another test for the mobile AEC (which use a different, lighter weight, algorithm).
