Merchant refuses to cancel credit card transaction

I am trying to cancel a transaction I made with my discover card. When I contacted the company directly, they told me "Since you don't want to dispute the charge, contact the merchant directly." So I contacted the merchant's office and they told me that since the payment had already been processed, they can't cancel it. I'm not sure what to do at this point.
