The sun was nearly at its highest point in the sky when a knock on his chamber door disturbed Prince Elias, Eli to his friends, from the brief nap he’d managed to drift into. It had been much needed- the importance of today had left the newly 23-year-old prince too full of anxiety to sleep. His personal attendant had tried their best to hide the bags but, thanks to Elias’s pale skin, it had proven a fruitless endeavor.

It was a shame- eyebags aside, the second prince of the elvish kingdom was said to be one of the most beautiful in the land, including princesses of neighboring kingdoms. It wasn’t a reputation he was particularly fond of- a persistent illness left him petite, slender even. It had meant no strenuous physical activity, which left him with weaker muscles than most boys his age had had.

His looks had also been exactly what had gotten him into this situation. His kingdom had been at war with the seafolk for nearly a year and the tide was starting to turn against them (no pun intended.) The crown prince of the sea kingdom had accepted a peace treaty on one condition- that he be wedded to the elven royal’s second son. Elias hadn’t even been given a choice in the matter. His older brother and father had both told him it was for the good of the kingdom. This was the one thing in Elias’s power that he could do.

Another knock. The seafolk’s royal family were no doubt almost to the palace and Elias was supposed to be in the throne room with the rest of his family to greet them. The prince took a deep breath as he headed for the donor- just what would be in store for him?
