AITA for calling out my friend when he lied about his score?
Post Body

So the yesterday me and my buddies were playing a round after work. It was a pretty casual round as always and I am not the one going around counting other peoples strokes for the most part, but on a certain hole me and my friend drive we’re right next to each other. Our second shot went into the same location. I remember even telling him that it was a tough spot becasue I was in the same spot last time I played that course.

The green was covered by trees and he tomahawked it into the circle while I threw around the trees. So at this point I know for a fact he’s putting for four. Well we both missed our putts therefore I got a five however somehow he got a four???

Now let me preference this by saying I’m not trying to start drama or was worried about his score in a competitive manner. it’s just this game is built on integrity and at the end of the day lying about your score will make any of your rounds invalid. Also this guy has been a serial score shaver. He was never super into the sport years prior so I would just let it go but this year he’s making a push to get better and be competitive and get better however last week I caught him shaving strokes as well and let it slide so this time I thought I would say something. Here’s how it went.

Score keeper: what did everyone get?

Friend: I got a four

Me: I’m pretty sure you got the same as me, a five.

Friend: (in a defensive mannner) alright fine I got a five I guess….

a few seconds later

Friend: I’m pretty sure I got a four though

Score keeper: alright well what is it?

Me: hey it’s your call I’m just pretty sure you got a five but I could be wrong

Friend: yeah no I definitely got a four

The next few holes were definitely a little awkward and I definitely felt a little bad for calling him out but it’s just the fact that I happened to have practically all the same shots as him. I personally can’t stand people who lie about their score and at the end of the day I want him to keep pushing himself and getting PR’s but if he’s having a hard time remembering strokes it’s hard to believe him unfortunately.

I just wanted to post this to get a general consensus on how to deal with this type of situation. Was I taking it too far by calling him out? What do others do when they don’t believe someone’s score?
