Apartment hunting and disclosing disability status (USA)

Post Body

I've got some time before I have to move. I'm trying to get a head start so I'm as prepared as I can be. But I just wrote an email and then didn't send it because I realized: is it really the best idea to tell them I'm disabled?

For context: I 100% need a ground floor, 1-story apartment because my mobility is too impaired to climb the stairs. And this was going to be my very first interaction with them. I'm not sure if I want to disclose, but asking strictly for ground floor only is an accommodation, right? So in order to pursue my right to that accommodation I have to tell them?

Please lend me your experiences and knowledge!
