Hi wondering if anyone has some insight.
I've been on long term disability for about a year and a half, policy is offered through my employer and I pay the monthly fee (automatically deducted from my paycheck).
Since going on disability the company I worked for has been sold, so I have no one the verify things with.
My disability is not in question, this is regarding calculation of benefits.
Basically a few months ago I realized the benefit being paid to me is the incorrect amount, based on my income the monthly amount is short by $633.
I brought this to the disability companies attention and they casually said too bad??? I asked for official statement months ago, nothing has been provided.
Allegedly, the employer needed to update the amount deducted as I allegedly wasn't paying "enough" so the benefit is being paid at the amount the employer charged me. Having said that, all of our checks are automated, correct taxes deducted, etc... Would this also not simply be automated?
Problem is:
The insurance company has not provided an official statement regarding this
I had ZERO control or knowledge of what was being deducted by my employer nor for what amount that deduction covered me for, I would have happily paid more if I have known this was an issue.
I have no way of knowing if they are just shorting me. Or even maybe not telling me about options to resolve.
My tax receipts show I was clearly earning more.
How do I verify they are being honest, what the benefit amount on correct income is/should be?
Can I not just pay the difference (a few dollars a month) and support/prove income is higher with taxes?
They say employer should have adjusted this, allegedly they didnt. How do I verify?
I checked their website for benefit admin forms and there were no forms (on site) that benefit admins could update income.
