Let’s face it, there is a certainly allure to the random, NSA, formerly-Craigslist-style casual encounter. On the other hand, there are certainly ahem benefits to the familiarity (physical and otherwise) that comes with a steady partner.

When I last lived in LA I had a lovely friend with whom I shared such an arrangement: a fun, flirty friendship based on mutual respect and in substantial part on non-reciprocal oral. She’d text me when she had time and inclination, and I’d do the same, somehow almost always managing to fit each other in. We’d construct the sort of adventurous scenarios that really only come with time and trust. Meeting at an out of the way public place, for instance, visiting at/near work, or briefly in the morning for a wake up visit or before bed for a nightcap. Along the way, we struck up a genuine, supportive friendship, pairing our visits with dinners out or in, museum wandering, movies, all with the promise of excellent company and at least a little excitement every visit.

Here’s the rub: I moved out of LA a few years back, though I visit just about every month. It would be ideal to start the getting-to-know one another while I’m in town this week so we can get straight to the fun on my next trip.

I’m cognizant that this sort of thing isn’t for everyone. Sometimes life circumstances make the emotional closeness I describe difficult. And for some the anonymity of a truly random act is simply validating. But, for me at least, the real fun starts when you really get to know a partner. Oh, and because it’d be helpful for you to know, I’m 6’2”, dark hair and eyes, exceedingly well educated. I don’t work in entertainment, or anywhere even close.
