Iām a 19-year-old girl of mixed heritageāmy dad is Korean, and my mom is white. Iām white-presenting, which means most people assume Iām fully white when they meet me. Despite this, Iāve always felt a pull to connect more deeply with my Korean roots, but itās been a struggle since I didnāt grow up immersed in much of the culture.
My dad didnāt emphasize teaching me Korean traditions or language as I was growing up, and Iāve come to realize that Iāve missed out on a big part of who I am. Now that I am in college, it feels like somethingās missing, like Iām not fully grasping that part of my identity.
Iām looking for someone who can guide me through this journey and help me connect with my Korean heritage on a deeper level. I want someone who is firm, understanding, and confident. I feel like I need someone who will actively help me understand and engage with my identity and know who I really am if you follow me.
Iām open to new experiences and excited to learn, but sometimes I need someone to push me outside my comfort zone, especially since I tend to feel like an āoutsiderā due to how I look. I love talking to people who are good with words and who can communicate ideas in a way that helps me feel more connected.
