You wouldn’t believe the day I’ve had! With Amanda and the kids out of town for the weekend, I took the opportunity to knock out some long overdue yard work. After throwing on an undershirt, some old gym shorts and my white New Balances, I hit the ground running.
I started the morning with a good mow. Not too early I hope—I saw you watching me from your window, hoping I didn’t wake you. Despite my efforts to beat this relentless summer heat, my undershirt was drenched in sweat by the end, so I had to lose it.
I’ll be the first to admit—I’m not the skinny athlete I used to be. That lean muscle tone I had in college has grown to a comfortable dad bulk, forged from a delicate balance of weekend yard work and grilling. What was a small patch of chest hair is now fully covering my pectorals, abdomen, forearms and tree trunk legs. I wear it all with pride, despite all the neighbors who can’t take their eyes off of me!
After I took care of the edging and gutters, I decided to finally plant that peach tree, committing to a hole two feet wide and three feet deep. I powered through for almost two hours—shoveling soil, removing rocks, chopping roots…
Then I hit the damn water line.
Long story short, I’m without water until tomorrow. I saw your car in the driveway, and thought I’d give it a shot. You might be home alone, but do I hope you’ll let me come inside, just this once :)
