The note an acquaintance scribbled on a ripped piece of paper spoke of a bar made to look like a smokey Prohibition-era speakeasy in the business district of the city, though never mentioned it by name. You wondered if you were in the right bar, but honestly, how many bars had that kind of motif in this town?
You look around to see many people in the establishment; singles, couples, throuples...all seemingly ignoring you. That was fine though, you were waiting there for a very specific purpose. A Golden Envelope. The reason you were alone in a bar in the city at all, alone.
There had been a rumor that had found its way to you, about an organization that frequented this bar looking for partners for the evening. These people, men and women, would request the partnership of those waiting in this bar to spend an evening with. Some even keep these partners in a long-term manner, ushering them into a life where money no longer matters.
Honestly you were just curious if the rumor had any merit to it, a mystery you were simply looking to play out. Worst case scenario is that you have to Uber back to your apartment after a few drinks.
Minutes pass, then an hour without anyone so much as looking your way. You were settling your bill to leave when a smiling person, not your waiter, places a small golden envelope propped up by the table's candle. He then bows and walks away.
You pick the small envelope up and slide it open to reveal a small note. It reads:
"Good Evening Madam. If it is agreeable to you, please meet me at my home in Calabasas on Friday night at 9:00pm. Enclosed is the address and directions, as well as gate code and funds for fuel."
And now the question remains: Do you play the game, or consider your curiosity satisfied?
