You don't love Starbucks. No one does, probably. But it's reliable caffeine, and easy internet, and home to plenty of preppy coeds too stressed out by an impending midterm to even notice you checking them out. And normally, that's all that happens. You grab a quick coffee, you ogle some college-aged, Lulu-Lemon-wrapped ass, sigh wistfully as your fantasies run wild, then head home to your favorite amateur pornsites and subreddits to jerk one out.

Maybe, on a particularly good day, you might even try to strike up a conversation with one, but you know how that'll go. She'll glance up at you from the screen of her MacBook Air, give you a blindingly fast once-over that disappoints her in less time than it takes for her to blinks, and stonewall you with a look that says everything it needs to and more. You're left to nurse a punctured ego and a tepid coffee.

But today is different.

She's more svelte than skinny, but her build can only be described as delicate. Designer jeans and a loose, silky blouse, accented with diamond earrings. Wedge heels that are more elegant than flirty. Silky black hair cascades down one shoulder as she tilts her head, narrowing almond eyes at her laptop - she purses K-pop-red lips, drumming manicured nails against the countertop as if studying some intractable problem.

You think nothing of it when she leans over to check if the restrooms are empty. They are. She pushes her chair back and 'Excuse me's her way to the bathroom. The door swings shut. There's the audible click of a lock.

Her laptop is still open.

You shouldn't look. It's not the gentlemanly thing to do. If you were a good person, you'd look the other way, get your coffee and go.

But you can't help it, can you?

So you meander over, casually, as if by accident, past my latte and bag and laptop, turn your head just to see what I'm working on. A lecture, or a practice test, maybe a reading of some kind.

What you see is very different.
