Fairfield University (FU for short) had the best futbol program in the country. I had been leading the team for the last 3 years and we hadn't had a losing season since I started. I started as a graduate assistant right out of school and eventually after a 2-23 season, our coach got fired and they asked me to step in. Maybe because I was inexperienced and cheap, maybe they saw something in me, but who knows.

We finally made it to the championship match against a school in California. Our girls battled all year and deserved the trip to sunny LA to play in a massive stadium, and for me, it was a chance to be seen nationally as an up and coming coach in college futbol. I had the look the media wanted; 6 foot 5, brown hair, soft blue eyes, and a nice shaped beard, and I wasn't afraid to answer the tough questions to the media. This was my chance to win, and I wasn't going to let anything stop me.

But maybe someone could. You are the best player our team, impressive for a sophomore in college to get minutes, but you make the most of it. You are a shoe-in to be All American and get some recognition yourself, but in the semi-finals game you almost gave up the go ahead goal with only minutes remaining. You'd been a bit sloppy lately and I had no idea why, but I couldn't have it in the championship game. As I wrote down the lineup in the hotel that night I knew I had no choice. I had to pull you from the lineup. I had no idea what your reaction would be when you found out.
