“Hey, Taylor! I got a Halloween joke for you.”

My favorite bartender (and someone I had been trying to get with ever since I started frequenting the place) playfully rolled her eyes, smiled and set her towel down before coming over to where my friends and I were sitting.

“Shoot.”

“How do West Virginians celebrate Halloween?”

I could see her trying to come up with the punchline herself, but she gave up after a few seconds and shrugged.

“Pumpkin!”

My friends got a good chuckle out of it. Taylor covered her mouth with her hand as she laughed, then lightly smacked my forearm with the other.

“You’re so bad!” she scolded me before walking over to serve another customer.

As I watched her walk away (who couldn’t with an ass like hers?), I noticed an older, gray-bearded gentleman looking in our direction. I gave him a head-nod, but he didn’t flinch. I then saw his mouth moving, but with the music playing and the conversations around us getting louder, I couldn’t make out what he said – turns out I’m not a great lip reader.

I thought about confronting the guy since it was obvious he took offense to my joke, but my friends got my attention by pointing out what was going on in the World Series game. By the time I looked in that man’s direction next, he was gone.

I thought nothing of it for the rest of the night, but the next day, I could feel something change in the autumn air. Things just felt…off.

That night, my parents held their annual Halloween party for their friends and neighbors. I kept things simple, dressing in a green Johnny Hardwood’s Landscape cutoff shirt with a pair of jeans and a pair of work boots.

My mom and sister had different ideas, dressing up in costumes that pushed the envelope, despite my father’s concern over how much attention they’d be getting during the evening. When they got the slightest bit of alone time with me throughout the party, they whispered some pretty dirty stuff to me, telling me what they wanted “Johnny Hardwood” to do to them.

Even though I wanted to resist their advances, I couldn’t. Suddenly, the events from the previous night came back to mind, and it all became clear to me in that moment.

I was cursed to do exactly what I had joked about.

Hello, DPP! Happy Halloween!

I’m looking for a female partner to play my cursed character’s mom and/or sister during the Halloween party. I’d like to start things off right before the party begins, as my character sees the women in their costumes for the first time, kicking everything into gear!
