In the distant past of 2023, the strangest event humanity would ever
know occurred: A woman gave birth to a bunnygirl.
She wouldn’t be the only one, and by the time she was of mature age, there were handfuls of bunnygirls all over the world. And they weren't flukes, either. Each one had long bunny ears and a cotton-soft tail that matched the color of her hair. Their skin was delicate and sensitive, with the paler ones being vulnerable to sunburn. They were almost impervious to infectious disease, but had severe diet allergies. Despite needing to eat significantly more than the average human, the bunnygirls stayed thin and lean. Fat mostly went to their wide hips and heavy chests, hallmarks of their exaggerated reproductive capacity. And each and every bunnygirl had similar passions and interests, namely service, submission, and sex. Soon after, it was discovered that if you boinked a bunnygirl, she made more bunnygirls.
In the modern time of 2245, bunnygirls make up ~10% of the world population, accounting for 1 in 5 women. However, work isn’t everything to bunnygirls, same as normal people. This leaves them poorly equipped to survive in modern capitalist society, where rent is hard to meet if you don’t work 40 hours a week. Bunnygirls may not love their hosts or prefer them as partners, but they’re thankful for the chance to serve and follow their heart without having to worry about the roof over their head.
But, this imbalance of power leads to abuse. As more and more bunnygirls became semi-dependent on male benefactors, and more and more stories of irresponsible owners surfaced, national governments began to codify the relationship between bunnygirls and the men they served. In the United States, this was introduced as the Civic Adoption Act 2031. Once again, human beings, but particularly the bunnygirls, could be owned as pets.
Pet bunnygirls have to give up a lot to their owners: responsibility over their health and finances, their bodily and sexual autonomy, employment opportunities, and some civil liberties. In exchange, they receive a roof over their heads, food on their table, and a commitment to be cared for, so long as they submit to their owner gracefully and obediently.
Bunnygirls are free to find their own happiness, of course, and adoption is easily annulled by the adopted. But for many, a life of serving at the feet of a providing, responsible man for the chance to live their dreams care-free and passionately is all they could ever ask for.
