It all started without any warning. One day, out of the blue, several thousand creatures, more or less humanoid in appearance, began to fight in the skies above Salina, Kansas. It lasted for several hours, long enough for the network news cameras to get crews on the scene. People all over the globe were glued to their televisions as something out of a fantasy movie played out in the American skies.

A vast majority of the creatures on both sides looked like the traditional paintings of the Judeo-Christian angels. Feathers, wings, the whole package. One side of the conflict had ebony features and the other had snow white. The creatures who lacked the angelic appearance varied wildly in size and features from something out of a Lovecraft story to vaguely anthropomorphic animals to demons.

Everywhere one of these massive creatures fell, their blood poisoned the ground for dozens of yards in every direction. The fumes were toxic, and they stung your eyes and nose like tear gas. The farms for miles around Salina were ruined. Power lines, wind farms, buildings. Eerily, the sunlight was dimmed. What little there was of Salina was destroyed.

After several hours, the battle stopped as suddenly as it began. Scientists couldn't get close enough to the swiftly rotting corpses to give them a proper examination. The fumes covered the battleground with a greenish, poisonous haze, rendering the area around Salina no longer habitable for a period of time that no scientist could speculate.

Religious groups scurried to make sense of the event. End times cults formed and grew. Many people stopped going to work and to school. Society began to fray around the edges.

A few weeks later, it happened again. This time, it was directly over Beijing. Buildings were leveled. Thousands died when the creatures hit the ground and continued to fight. It was like something out of a monster movie. This battle went on all day. The entire world stopped to watch. When it was over, the green haze was gradually replacing Beijing's famous smog, and the surviving creatures were nowhere to be seen.

Over the next year, battles like this occurred over most of the globe. Dead patches, ruined with these creatures' blood, littered every nation. Power service failed. What water was coming through the pipes was tainted and poisonous. Civilization fell to its knees and died. And the worst part? These creatures didn't seem to know or care. They barely noticed us, at all. Stories began to circulate about some of the more horrific creatures on both sides of the conflict ravishing, and in many cases, impregnating human women with hideous half-breed creatures.

I live by myself in a subdivision in Columbus, Georgia. My husband was military, but died early during the conflict.
