Hi there! As the title probably gives away, this is a post about the ongoing DC show Stargirl. However, in accordance to the rules, my personal comfort, and narrative fun - this takes place after the series (or at least after where the series is now). The characters are around the age of the actors portraying them as a result. While the rest of this post will go into the prompt in more depth and it won’t be ambiguous, I wanted to drive that in right off the bat so there are no questions.
Before diving in, a few important points of note. I only play over Reddit DMs, no chats please. I only play submissive characters. And I am open to playing cis or trans women roles. I am also not open to playing as or opposite OCs. With that out of the way, let’s get into things:
Four years ago when she moved to the big city for college, Courtney hadn’t expected to stay. It had always been the plan to move back home shortly after finishing. However, as college wrapped up, that wasn’t the case. She hadn’t realized it until faced with leaving, but she had really put down roots here. New friends, old friends who had moved out this way with her. Which is how, six months after finishing her courses, she found herself staying. Courtney got herself a permanent job, moved in with some of her friends, and continued to enjoy the freedom she got out here. Having come to consider herself a small town girl, she was surprised to realize it - but she really was making a home here in the city. On occasion, she’d return home, but this was where she stretched her legs these days.
Of course, trouble exists no matter where she goes, so Stargirl has become a fixture of her new home as it had her old one. There were new villains to stop, old allies who had come with her, meeting other heroes, and of course a more adult edge. Being a superhero in your early twenties in the big city means Courtney has a lot of exciting options at her disposal. Sexual encounters and romances with civilians, heroes, even villains as she figures out who she wants to be.
You might notice, despite establishing the status quo, there’s a lot of wiggle room for characters. And that’s because the DC universe is a big place with a lot of options for us to explore.
The first main option is to draw on characters from her own series. Have them be her roommates or move out to the city with her. Settling into new lives, having gotten to spend the last four years exploring themselves and understanding themselves better, maybe their friendly relationship is about to change in a big way.
The other main option is that we could make it a crossover with characters not from her show. Pretend her show exists in the same universe as another show or otherwise use comics characters who haven’t appeared in Stargirl. Maybe her new roommate is Nia Nal and they both find themselves sneaking around the other to go out and be superheroes, not realizing at first they’re hiding the same secret.
Or maybe Courtney’s found herself in Gotham City, contrasting with the city’s trademark grim and gloomy atmosphere. The city is practically overflowing with vigilantes, who knows who she might run into?
Maybe instead of being paired with a hero, Courtney finds herself catching complicated feelings for one of the local villains. Instead of bringing them to justice, maybe they find they'd rather do something else than fight.
There are too many crossover options in the whole DC Universe to cover, but I think those ideas might give you a sense of where my head’s at on that front. Putting her in another hero's city and seeing the kind of dynamics that could come from that, how she interacts with different heroes and villains.
