Flying can be such a stressful experience, navigating long lines, security checks, hauling heavy bags and making it to your gate just in the nick of time. So when you arrived at the gate to see your flight had been delayed due to weather, it almost came as a relief. You had some extra time to catch your breath, sit down, and hell, after the day you’ve had, even grab a drink at the airport bar.

There were only a few other people scattered through the dimly lit bar, mostly tired looking travelers just needing a break. That’s when you saw him walk in, a handsome man, maybe a bit older than you, looking as though he was traveling for business. He seemed familiar with the bartender, perhaps he traveled often and was one of the bar’s regulars at this point. He couldn’t help but smile when he looked over and caught you staring, and you could feel the warm blush hitting your cheeks as he approached and introduced himself.

He was so charming and warm, and after polite introductions and a round of drinks, the conversation melted from “So where are you headed?” To “It must get pretty lonely traveling so much…” The drinks and flirting had flowed so easily that your new flight time had snuck up on you quickly. You made sure to scribble down your number before rushing off to your gate, still pretty buzzed from the drinks.

As you approached the gate, you saw a crowd of disappointed travelers staring at the departure screens. The weather had turned worse in the last hour, and the screen began to fill with red ‘Canceled’ icons, one by one, until they finally claimed your flight too. You’d been so worked up in stress that you didn’t realize your handsome stranger had approached right next to you. “Guess it’s time for another drink.” He said sarcastically as you turned to see him, grateful for a friendly face after such a tumultuous day. “I hope it’s not too forward, but my company keeps a room reserved at the hotel for times like this. If you’d like, you could use it to freshen up a bit, I know it can feel kind of gross being stuck in an airport all day.” His smile looked just a bit hopeful as he watched you think it over. A hot shower would be so relaxing right now, as well as a warm bed, and possibly some company for the evening. His smile widened as he extended a hand to yours, and felt your soft palm slip into his, ready to be led into the unexpected evening ahead.
