You'd been representing your company at its biggest trade show since 1988. You'd started as the lowest level associate and spent over 30 years working your way up the food chain, until finally you were the most senior team lead, one step below your department's Vice President.
The trade show was fun - lots of open bars, a chance to network and make friends with people in your industry who you only saw once a year. Being able to lead your employees was a big deal professionally - and the bonus you got for taking on that responsibility didn't hurt.
But the quality of employees you were bringing had declined over the years, at least in comparison to your high standards. There were more frat boys who couldn't string two sentences together, and fewer opportunities to promote and recognize the next generation of leadership in the company.
The change also showed in how your colleagues spent their free nights. Sure, in the 90s you'd enjoyed a night at a strip club. You weren't a prude, and you weren't married. You liked looking at pretty girls. But somehow the tradition in your company had become dinner at Hooters and then getting drunk at a bar next to the hotel.
Every year it was the same - the associates would leer and make comments about chicken breasts to the poor waitress. She's feign interest in the account executive who was staring at her ass for the whole meal. And she'd pretend that it wasn't soul-crushing when she got tipped 8.5%.
This year was no different. You went, you sat down, and immediately Stevenson from Accounts Payable started trying to pick up the perky, doe-eyed blonde who walked over to your table. You sighed. This poor girl had to put up with so much.
Hi! Today I have a new idea - you're a distinguished late-50s professional on the road with your team. They've chosen to go to Hooters. Again. And they're being gross to the girls there.
You're not attached, and at a certain point you'll need to say something to her. But, if you play things right, she might respond well to that! Wouldn't it be great to stick it to Stevenson by effortlessly picking up the college dropout he's trying to flirt with?
I want to spend some time talking about this idea OOC and making it the best it can be! If you have ideas on how to make it better and improve on what I've laid out here, or favorite references you want to share that would be fun! Let's talk!
