A cold gust of winter air can be felt outside the cabin windows. The fire crackles in the background as you finish a book by the warm fire. Between the wind howling and the fire there is a faint sound from below, you ignore it determined to finish this chapter.

As you set the book down on the coffee table, you let your body relax, you know the next thing on your schedule for the day is what you want the most. You rise from the chair and take your dirty coffee mug to the sink to wash. You look around the cabin feeling satisfied that you got your list done for the day and didn’t let the little secret steal your time away. Though admittedly the impulse to go to the basement has had you on edge of needing all day. You pull on your flannel work shirt, grab your keys, and start to unlock the massive black padlocks on the door to the basement.

The door swings open and the smell of wet old wood hits you, that distinct smell old cabins like this possess. While you’ve renovated the upstairs you wanted down here to remain mostly as you found it. Dark, damp, and ever present sense of foreboding. The sounds from down here grow louder as the door opens. The soft whimpers,a small rattle of a cage, and the beautiful noise of chains clinging together gently. Your heavy work boots hit each step and the long loud creaks of the boards cut through the air. The whimpers and cage rattles get louder-the hint of fear hits your nostrils. Now comes your fun for the day.
