In a small, one-room cabin tucked away in the mountains, you and I are fast asleep, enjoying some very much needed time alone together. Somewhere out there, a loud crack of thunder breaks the silence of the night, and I find myself awake in a cold sweat, breathing heavily. I take in my surroundings after an initial moment of panic, settling back in as I see the same cabin I went to sleep in, you next to me under the covers sleeping on your side. In that moment, a long, flickering flash of lightning brightens the night outside, and another loud crack of thunder tears through the air.

It's quite funny. During the day, I love thunderstorms. When we can, you and I always sit out on our covered porch in our chairs, watching the lightning and listening to the thunder and rain pour down. At night, however, these same storms make me uneasy. I never understood why.

I pull myself back under the covers and wrap my arms around you, feeling a little safer. I take in your scent and gently run my fingers through your hair as you sleep, trying to calm myself down. Both of us have always slept naked, and I feel your warm, soft skin pressed against mine. I notice my hand still trembling a little, and keep my focus on you. Even when you're sleeping, you make me feel safe. I feel a little more invincible under the covers with my arms wrapped around you...
