Like many others, your powers had manifested at puberty. And it had been quite jarring to go from a shy, nondescript girl to someone that could take out bad guys in a cocktail dress. But you had some role models to look towards.

Not so long ago, one name had towered above the rest. Seer. He had been one of the first to manifest, when the Phenomenon first occurred in the 90s. He had been the best, the brightest, the most loyal. And he had been your mentor, your confidante, and the person that helped you most on those early days when your powers were still acting haywire, not yet fully under your control.

And then, three years ago, he had dropped off the face of the planet. You would never admit it, but it still stung. No note, no explanation. Just gone.

Sure, there had been reports of sightings; news stories with a fuzzy, half-seen figure that might have been him. But starting a week ago, those stories had become more and more prolific. And when a report that someone matching his description had been seen abducting a girl from a subway, you didn’t have a single thought before excusing yourself from your date and springing into action.

Now, as you glimpsed down into the dimly-lit warehouse through the grimy skylight, you could see a girl strapped to a chair. And slowly walking into the cone of light, as certain to you as your own appearance in the mirror, it was him. What the fuck was he involved in? And what were you going to do about it?
