“You did what?” my wife asked me incredulously.

“I just spent the better part of an hour clearing a pathway out back with the snowblower so that your daughter and a couple of her friends can use the hot tub,” I repeated. If her flight home from her business trip wasn’t delayed, she would’ve been able to see it for herself.

My wife chuckled. “Oh, dear. My daughter? I believe it was you who gave her the idea in the first place.”

I had a habit of getting myself in trouble with my big mouth, and this was no exception. When word of the big storm started to circulate, I laughed it off, saying that the last time we got this much snow 30 years ago, I spent the next day in a hot tub with a couple sorority girls.

After my daughter told me her college canceled classes for the day because of the storm and her plans to use the hot tub in a similar fashion, I was no longer laughing.

“Yeah, but there sure as hell won’t be any guys here,” I replied.

“You’re no fun. Well, I gotta get going. Hopefully, I can get on a plane soon and get home. I’m ready to get outta here. You all be careful. Don’t slip on any ice and kill yourselves.”

“We’ll be fine. Just get home safe. Let me know what’s going on when you find out.”

“I will. Love you.”

“Love you too. Bye.”

With that, I hung up and looked out the back patio door. The little walkway was cleared, and the hot tub was ready to go. The longer I gazed out at the tub, the more inviting it appeared.

30 minutes later, I rested my back against the wall of the tub with my eyes closed, letting the jets give me a much-needed massage. The hot water felt amazing around me, and I got lost in the moment, forgetting that there was a ton of snow just outside this tub.

Only a smatter of giggles from behind me snapped me back to the present.

“Dad? What are you doing out here?”

I turned my neck so I could face the three girls as they walked toward the tub in hoodies and sweatpants. “Oh, just getting it warmed up for all of you. I’ll get out of your way.”

I stood up, allowing the girls to get a better look at my body. No, my frame wasn’t as trim as it was in my college days, but I was in generally good shape for my age.

Just as I was about to step out of the tub, one of my daughter’s friends spoke up.

“You don’t have to go, Mr. Gray,” she said, offering me a small smile. “Hang out with us for a little bit.”

I looked at my daughter, who seemed just as surprised as I was.

“You sure?” I asked.

“Positive.” Her smile got wider.

I’m looking for a female partner to play at least one of the women mentioned in the intro. There are a few different routes we can take with this story. Perhaps one (or both) of the daughter’s friends acts on a little crush they’ve developed on their friend’s dad? Maybe the daughter wants to show her dad some appreciation for the work he did in setting everything up for her?
