I couldn’t wait to get out of the office noon on Friday. It was one of those cooler summer evenings that made the woods just beckoned to be wandered. Arriving around 2 pm at the trailhead, after 5 miles of good hiking i was excited to get to my favorite camping spot.
I had discovered it a few years back and it featured heavily in my rotation of local places. A small grass hill ringed by trees flanked a deep cool hard stone spring; the litany of other trails and loops leading away from a nearby hub made it the perfect base camp.
But as i got closer and closer to my spot my mood started to sour. Clearly someone else had found my little hideaway….
