This is something that I've noticed after being in this community for a bit and it's not an insult at all, just an interesting thing I've picked up on after being mainly on other writing communities and I want to think about the differences. I'm used to writing strictly in a "traditional writing style", third-person, past tense. It's just how I've been trained to write and it's my default assumption going into any RP. It's also an important distancing tool from me and my characters Yet, here I've been seeing a lot more people going first person, present tense and I'm pondering on exactly why it's like that here? I would not say that first person is 100% the norm here but I've found more people willing to play it here than I have anywhere else.

I should note my experience before here tended to be on roleplaying forums or other sites. It might also just be my experience mostly doing fandom RP, if you're RPing something that's based on something else, the assumption is that you'd want it to be 100% clear what character you are playing and although that can be done in first person, the clearest indication would be third person. I still go on these other sites regularly but after dipping my toes here, I'm thinking about the difference. I think it's an interesting distinction and would like to here what other people think might be the reason for these differences.
