Eighteen years ago my wife went out "for a packet of cigarettes." It must have been some packet because she never came back, leaving me alone with our little daughter Sophie. Single father, part-time mother, that was me ever since.

And honestly, life was good. Sophie, now about to turn 21, had wanted for nothing and I'd worked my ass off to give her the life she deserved. So, I might have neglected my own love life a little, but Sophie was all that mattered to me.

You, though. You thought differently. You were Sophie's closest friend, and I was the "Crush you couldn't tell anyone about". Especially Sophie. Okay, maybe you and her closest friend might have spoke about me behind Sophie's back as a bit of a DILF. But hey, I looked after myself, and for a guy in his 40s, I didn't look bad.

Broad shoulders, muscular torso that you could tell was something 'back in the day' and eyes that still looked mischievous. And the hair...dark brown almost black, I could dye it, but no, I used to joke that "the greys make me look distinguished" and they "gave me character".

Today, was Sophie's 21st. I was cooking BBQ for you girls before you hit the town. We had shared more than enough looks that we shouldn't have. Surely you were just teasing me. You weren't in to me. Guys were lining up to date you.

Maybe you're of that age where those young guns just don't do it for you, or don't have the experience you're looking for, so what's to say you can't be in the market for something a little closer to your age. Remember, you're not old....just older.

Hell, you might even be someone a little younger looking for that older partner, because after all....
