"Wow, you've really changed..!"

Her blue eyes are wide with surprise, and made to seem even larger with the makeup applied so flawlessly as to seem just a natural part of her face. Her dark brown hair curls over her shoulders, much in the same way my own did, once, and her breasts-- well, let's not focus on those just yet. She nods, and for a moment looks scared. I reach out my hand and put it on hers, squeezing briefly. I expect her to pull away, but she doesn't. Instead, she just looks at me. Looks at me with those big, doe-like eyes.

"But hey," I add with a smirk, "it's good to see you! Haven't really talked to anyone from back home since we graduated. Funny seeing you here." A part of me knows that I ought to let go of her hand, but I don't want to. And she doesn't seem to pull away either, so... "What brings you out here, anyway?"

"Work," she says simply, and I feel her thumb brush over mine. "Been living here for six months now, I think? I like it. What about you?"

I nod. "Yeah, something of the same. Say, this might sound weird, but... can I buy you a drink?"

She smiles. It is not a smile that I have yet learned to read, but in the months to come I will come to understand what it means. It is a faint, sweet curling of the corners of her mouth, mixed with a moue of the lips. It means, simply, 'I thought you'd never ask'.

She rides on my lap in the cab back to my place, her raspberry lips pressed to mine.
