"The highest and most beautiful things in life are not to be heard about, nor read about, nor seen but, if one will, are to be lived."
In the spirit of that, my favourite quote of Kierkegaard's, I want to live some high (pun absolutely intended) and beautiful things with one, or more, of you.
In the same way that many of us pursue pleasure in such a breathless haste that we hurry past it, I have on occasion found myself replying to a post on here with the greatest excitement, only for it to die out before whatever role play was planned ever had a chance to get off the ground. We post, we reply, but as soon as we've got what we so desperately aimed for, it's gone. It's not too far removed from a dog chasing cars.
But, what I really want from this, is to have someone with whom I can create the steamiest of lovemaking scenes, and still have time to discuss why it is that we humans must unfailingly regret every decision we make, and for that matter every decision we don't make as well. I want a lover, a poet, a pen-pal, a friend and someone to pull me down to earth if my head happens to get stuck on the other side of the clouds.
Now, I understand that this may all sound rather pretentious, but I believe we need to be a little on that side in order to practice philosophy properly. If not, we'll end up bouncing back ideas that have already been thought and written down long before we were ever born, and have our proverbial wheels stuck in centenarian intellectual mud.
I believe I've made my intentions clear, if not I would be happy to clarify them.
I'll leave you with another one of my favoured quotes from the man himself.
"Marry, and you will regret it; don’t marry, you will also regret it; marry or don’t marry, you will regret it either way. Laugh at the world’s foolishness, you will regret it; weep over it, you will regret that too; laugh at the world’s foolishness or weep over it, you will regret both. Believe a woman, you will regret it; believe her not, you will also regret it… Hang yourself, you will regret it; do not hang yourself, and you will regret that too; hang yourself or don’t hang yourself, you’ll regret it either way; whether you hang yourself or do not hang yourself, you will regret both. This, gentlemen, is the essence of all philosophy."
So, what's the worst that can happen from replying to this? You'll regret it either way, so you might as well regret it in good company.
