I am in Pensacola tonight. The day has been a bit of a disaster but maybe I can salvage something out of it.

I can't come here without thinking of the song Boys of Summer (Don Henley or Ataris depending on how old you are). Also Kenny Chesney music. The vibe is hot summer days, bikinis, fast summer romance, etc. I am at a hotel close to the airport as usual.

I am a bit of an outsider here, as I am in and out quickly. I can blend in with the locals (khaki shorts tee shirt). I think often of folks that live year round in these areas and how when the "boys of summer" leave the pace slows. You both love and hate the tourists.

Maybe we meet at the bar at TGIF, or bump into each other getting a slice of pizza at Sam's. A chance comment leads to a deeper conversation and a few hours later I am tracing the curves of your body as the day is fading into night, a thunderstorm is raging a few miles off the coast. Pillow talk of is this one crazy night or do you come see me the next time I come to town?

I think we all want a connection. That is the thing I look for most. An attachment in maybe some small way to the country I travel around so much. I am never in one place very long but I am there often enough that I get a feel for the rhythm of life here.

Maybe it isn’t physical, maybe it is just a flirtation. Seeing you from across the room. Lamenting what we want but can’t have (Bridges of Madison County style…lol). I think later I am going to walk to the mall and roam around. I don’t do that often because well no one really does anymore….a nostalgic walk down memory lane. My gawd this is making me depressed…..did I say the day was a disaster? It is Monday so maybe as you are scrolling through Reddit you will see Pensacola and perk up and later tonight you will have another story to add to the few or many that are already there?

The post will likely disappear late this evening, and I will do the same early tomorrow morning. I come though often so if you are local and this resonates them drop me a line.
