Hello!
Welcome to our weekly open forum. This post is meant as a place for people to ask questions or get advice. Your question could be big, it could be small, it could be for the community, or for the mods. If you have something on your mind, let it out!
As a reminder, please keep all discussion here constructive and respectful.
If you have any questions or issues that you'd prefer to discuss with the moderators privately, feel free to drop a modmail instead.
Have a great day!
To be fair, it's way easier to discreetly browse prompts on one's phone, something that won't attract attention and that will likely not even be legible enough to discern from any distance as NSFW, than to, say, peruse a close-up picture of someone's genitalia.
As I understand it, it's essentially because, without the ban, there's nothing stopping someone from posting a picture of their body and adding some text below, and, reddit being what it is and wanting to see naked people, people who did that would soar above the rest and dominate the sub, instead of people who actually wrote.
There'd be a bit of a disparity, too, there - if you think being a guy on DPP now can be a bit rough, just imagine if people could post sexy pics. The rule is in place, for very good reason, to prevent it from turning into /r/slightly_more_literate_gonewild.
One nice compromise I've seen, where writers think there might be just this sort of confusion, is to have a tag like [M(playingMF)4A]. Just a thought!
Good on you, then! Nothing wrong with that! If a cat wants to make woof-woof noises and is cheerfully open about being a cat, then that's awesome about that, and I hope they find someone who makes them happy and they make happy themselves. A pet owner who's fine with both dogs and cats is absolutely cool, and if they want to play a game with their cat that's all about the fantasy of being a dog, that's cool too!
For me it comes down to deeply-held preferences and respect, though. If someone's a die-hard dog person, they just don't want to have a cat as a pet, and if they're looking for a pet, they've got every right to only adopt from the dog shelter. It's an ingrained thing - no one made them a dog person, it's not something they can choose to change, and if the fake ears fell off and they discovered their dog was really a cat, they'd just not have it in them to keep playing fetch. They might wish the cat well, and not mind cats at all in general, but it's not for them, not part of the pet-owning lifestyle they want.
Your view is, for you, a completely decent and awesome one, and I'm not knocking that at all. But I'm (respectfully) opposed to ransomUsername's comment because he is, for all intents and purposes, taking someone who didn't choose to be a dog person, but is a committed dog person, and telling them that their need for a dog buddy can just be fulfilled easily by getting a cat instead. But it's a dog-shaped hole in that person's heart, and no amount of urging them to "just pet a cat; you just haven't met the right cat" is going to fill it.
Yup! That's exactly what I'm saying.
Museum prompts I can't speak to, but I think non-con stuff is one of the most popular kinks out there; if you're into it and present that well, I'm not surprised you get some bites!
I can second this - the prompts I've had the most success on, usually, are the ones that are just stupidly specific - sure, it might turn 99 women off, but there's going to be one for whom that particular scenario or kink is just absolutely irresistible.
I mean, it's going to net you more responses, but that's rather like saying "you can totally find an awesome, cute dog if you just looked at cats, instead."
And if you're just looking for pets? Awesome; that is good advice, then! If you're only a dog person, though, it's a touch less than useful.

Hey, I agree with you; I was just pointing out that there's still a difference in practice. I think the best argument for the NSFW restriction is the fact that it keeps DPP focused on writing, overall, not anything to do with using it at work.
