Yesterday reddit launched a brand spanking new report function. It works much the same as the old function but gives you some options to unsubscribe or block posts/pms from posters so that you will no longer see them. Note that both of those functions are open to you without using this feature should you choose to update your preferences to block a person or unsubscribe from a subreddit.
So, if you click on report it might look a little different going forward but it will work much the same way.
This is as good a time as any to talk about what happens when you click on report as well as when report vs modmail is appropriate and finally why the [A4A] reporter gets a gold star for persistence but please for the love of pete stop reporting [A4A].
Reporting and modmailing are the main ways to contact moderators beyond public open forums, posts, and comments. Clicking report on a post or comment sends an anonymous report to the moderators of the subreddit. This is a good way to report a post or comment that breaks the rules of the subreddit. Some rule violations are better handled through a message to the moderators such as harassment, which requires screen shots; post copying, which we require evidence of the original post which was copied; as well as Offering or Soliciting Money/Compensation, which we would also require screen shots of the activity if it happens in PM we will remove posts which clearly request compensation. Simply clicking report on a post and marking it Copying Someone Else's Post may or may not get action from moderators -- if we are unable to find the original post on our own we will just approve the post. From a private message you can also click on Block to stop messages from a person or Report which sends a message to the Reddit Admins. A general rule of thumb, is if we can't see the evidence from the post itself send a modmail, if the post is the evidence report it!
We do welcome messages to modmail whether they are about post violations or just questions.
If you are curious what happens after you report something, well⌠we look at it. Whether it comes through to modmail or the mod queue we will take a look. We might agree with the report and then take action which can vary based upon the rule infraction as well as where the person is on the warning-temp ban-full ban scale. Or we might not agree, in which case we will take no action. Sometimes a post might be reported as Requesting Content Only ("Send me a story") but when we look at it, it is really just a simple chat request⌠approved! We donât review posts for quality. DPP is open to many people of many skill levels as well as many ways to be a penpal!
There are a few pretty popular mis-reports that I have listed below. When these are reported we look at them and pretty much approve themâŚ.
Post is not Prefixed: reports for [A4A] or [Futa4 ] there ainât no rule against that.
Threatening, harassing, or inciting to violence: This is a forum for exploring fantasies. Those fantasies can include rape, snuff, bestiality, and many others. This is not a report we would take action on. Where we draw the line on this is when actions veer into real life, those posts are removed.
Spam: Sorry you donât like that post/repost please ignore and move on. Your annoyance does not mean it is a rule violation.
Other commonly reported posts we take no action on includes âRacistâ as well as âcatfishingâ or âthis is a dudeâ.
If you have any questions about the reporting function or our review let us know.
EDIT: Jeez I forgot to say!!!! Thank you so much to those who do report posts/people that violate the rules. This is a great community and together we can keep it that way.
