I've noticed a trend in my DPP'ing lately, whether that's RP'ing, seeking a partner, or simply in how I go about commenting, upvoting, etc. around the sub when I visit. Increasingly often, and perhaps simply because I've spent enough time on the sub to develop some, I've noticed that I have some more or less subconscious rules my behavior is beginning to fall into, and in a few cases, I've actually came up with specific policies, for lack of a better term, to follow to help me navigate the sordid waters of DPP.
So I'm curious as to whether I'm the only one who does this, and if I'm not, what sorts of trends others have noticed themselves following. For my own part, most of these rules end up being pretty common sense- "assume that this reply you send is the last exchange you'll have with this partner" is a big one, although its importance ebbs and flows. "Don't respond to someone looking for someone you're not" is another cardinal one that I have- while I have no particular bias against someone into extreme sizeply, or raceplay, or guys with beards for example, knowing that they're turned on by something that's not me does tend to dampen my enthusiasm on an almost instinctive level, and so I'll just ignore said posts, or politely decline a reply requesting me to play with certain kinks. I'm talking about personal rules, things you base your own behavior on, not the sort of general trends and suggestions given in the tips on the sidebar.
And it's a good thing on some level, to have standards and rules for yourself based on experience and trial and error, but sometimes, I don't think it's a good thing. I've found myself, often, pondering whether "don't care" should be added to the list, but I can't quite, yet, bring myself to do it, and sometimes standards can turn into biases without one really noticing.
Thoughts? Comments? Rules of your own or trends you've noticed? I'd love to hear. Perhaps to help myself and maybe others have a more satisfying experience hear, and, of course, just for curiosity's sake.
