Others because of the severe weather during the winter. Those certainly played their role.

However, the villagers knew the real reason was the Ancient Agreement.

Near the massive mountain's peak lived an ancient white dragon named Frost Fang. Hundreds of years ago, when it was much younger, Frost Fang struck a deal with the council elders. In exchange for the village's most beautiful maiden each year at the Fall Festival, Frost Fang agreed to refrain from destroying the village, and even drive off any potential threats to his supply chain of breeding partners.

Each year, during the Fall Festival, the most beautiful woman in the village was chosen by the Town Elders and left on the tall platform in the center of the square. Sometimes it was a young maiden. Sometimes, a young wife. Some went willingly, while others resisted with everything they had. But all were stunningly beautiful.
