Story Prompt
Once upon a time, two kingdoms had been torn asunder by a decade of war, the weight of which nearly tore both to pieces. After so long, few remembered why they were fighting, or what the original sin was that lead each to hurl their armies at the other. The two Kings decided the war had to end for the greater good of the world at large. Not because either had gained the upper hand, but to stave off complete destruction of each. The two Kings met secretly and through long negotiation, decided the best way to bring about some form of reconciliation was to arrange a marriage.
One King's daughter, a true beauty, would be married to the other King’s Prince, Theolin, drawing the two kingdoms together in celebration. Many were suspect of the arrangement, as the long war created distrust between the people.
The Prince and the King left on an excursion to visit and encourage weary troops returning home from years away at battle. Scoundrels from a third, smaller kingdom seize the opportunity and raid the party, killing the King and the Prince.
Back at the castle, the younger Prince Adrian is recouping from his own injuries. As the younger Prince, he’d never be King so his path was always at war, leading troops to battle for his father’s glory. But now that had changed, and suddenly so.
The Prince who was never meant to be, is now King. He lacked the political refinement his older brother was taught, and now had also inherited his brother’s promised bride. The ceremonial marriage was now going to create a new Queen from the rival Kingdom. Could they trust each other? Could they help each other? Will they bring two kingdoms together, while a third mounts a new war?
