Post Body

Well, hello there. The nameā€™s Henry, Henry Bunyan. No, the nameā€™s not a coincidence, Iā€™m a descendant of the myth and legend Paul Bunyan. Or so Iā€™m told from my father, and his father told him. Now Iā€™m not one to figure logistics on how he found a woman to make that work out, so Iā€™m just as satisfied with living with the name and inheriting all that comes with it. Iā€™m a lumberjack that lives up in the mountains, and I like to think Iā€™m ok. Unlike the other loggers in the area, I use just simple wood cutting axe and I haul the logs I chop down myself. Sorry, I donā€™t have a big blue ox to do all the heavy lifting. The upside to that is that my 6ā€™8ā€ body has filled out entirely and Iā€™m more than able to carry my own weight, and then some. Thanks thick hair covering my thick forearms and chest, along with the bushy beard that I grow, the cold doesnā€™t bother me so much. Looks like Paulā€™s genes had quite a bit going for him.

I spend most of the day logging and cutting down trees. Swing my axe hard and fast, making sure to plunge it deep into the wood with every stroke. Iā€™ve never had a problem with pulling it out, no matter how tight the fit, or how much the wood grasps on my axe I can pull it free just to plunge it in again. I might be the sticky sap that the birches produce, helps oil up the blade some. In any case, nothing feels manlier than swinging away at a tree for hours and hours. Sometimes you have to get into a different position, work from a different angle, then you find the treeā€™s weak spot (or ā€œsweet spotā€ as I call it). Once you find that, itā€™s only a matter of time before the wood splinters, and the tree collapses (sometimes you could even hear a bit of a scream as they collapse, those are my favorites). Unfortunately, Iā€™m not done with it yet. Thereā€™s still some steps I complete to take care of the logs I cut, but Iā€™ll keep those to myself. Trade secrets and all.

Thatā€™s all about me. What about you? Are you a camper or hiker that came up here to test yourself against the wilderness but it became too much? Or perhaps youā€™re an overzealous skier or snowboarder that got lost or injured on one of the trails. You might even be a rival lumberjack, here to measure the stamina of the old Bunyan line yourself. Whatever the case may be, Iā€™ve got a log cabin I built myself, and a nice toasty fire for us to warm ourselves up to.
