I come to you tonight in search of help, DPP. I have a case of the writer's block. It's a curiously specific strain of block too. I'm having trouble writing replies to current RPs. They are wonderful stories written with fantastic people but every time I sit down to write I end up with 30 minutes worth of blank page.
I have plenty of ideas for new prompts, but I feel bad writing anything new when I've been keeping others waiting. I haven't written a reply in 22 days! I declined responses to my last prompt (gasp!), tabled a [Space] prompt that may never see the light of day, and squashed any inklings of ideas for [West] prompts before they could grow to maturity.
Now you know the symptoms, is there any hope, doctor?
I have to assume I'm not the only one afflicted with this disease. I'm also aware that there is likely no simple fix. But let's put our collective heads together (but not too close to me... I don't know if it's contagious) and see if we can't brainstorm some ideas that might help others in similar situations. They don't have to apply to my particular case. Maybe people want to write their first prompt but aren't sure how to make that transition from replying to creating their own story.
What have you done to overcome writer's block? Do you have any tips, tricks, or suggestions of things that have worked for you? Let us assume I've already gotten the advice to "give it time - it will pass." ;)
Together we can fight this terrible disease that affects perhaps tens of people across DPP, and wider surrounding regions.
