It's difficult being a milk man. Driving around town, making sure every house on the list gets its fair share of you delivery, not playing favorites to anyone one family. There is a pride in it however. I thoroughly enjoy stopping at a house, knowing that a housewife is anxious to see me, but polite enough to let me ring her bell before greeting me at the door. Their husbands always gone to work are always happy to have me stop and speak intimately with them. They all vie for my attention by inviting me in to taste what they have to offer. Mrs. Henderson always bakes the best cherry pies, whereas Mrs. Davids leaves me satisfied with her special secret banana creampies, but Mrs. Bloomberg always has a pair of decadent strawberry macaroons that just melt as soon as they hit my tongue.

I've tried to tell them in the past that no one family on my delivery list holds a special place in my heart, but I think they have fun and make it a competition among themselves to see who can out do one another. Oh well, I sample and taste what they have and they present their empty jugs that are void of milk and I make sure to pick out the best, creamy milk for my route and I make sure that the housewives are full and satisfied...at least for the next few days when I'll stop by again and they'll make me try their next greatest recipe and beg me to stay longer. Such is the life, and such is the duty, of the milk man.
