"There is no law, no restraint in this seething cauldron of vice and depravity." - The New York Tribune describing Abilene, Kansas.
In 1867, the small town of Abilene, Kansas is transformed when it becomes a railhead for shipping Texas cattle to the Eastern markets. The town booms, but with growth comes gamblers, con men, cowboys, and prostitutes. It will be three lawless years before the town becomes incorporated and gets a real marshall to deal with these "undesirables". Frank Prescott is one such undesirable.
By all outward appearances Frank Prescott is a gambler, and a damn good one. Within a week of his arrival the regulars at the saloon won't play with him anymore. But that doesn't mean they warn strangers to stay away from him. After all, if they lost their week's pay to the card shark, why shouldn't an out-of-towner? There is also something mesmerizing about watching him play. He is a dashing young man with an angular jaw, well dressed, with a thin, dark mustache that he twirls between his fingers when he concentrates. Every night he gathers a group of female admirers, and nearly every night one or even two of these lucky ladies accompanies Frank back to his hotel room.
But what no one in Abilene knows yet is that Frank is an outlaw. Wanted in three states and two territories for bank robbery and murder. He is simply using his time in the saloon to scope out the town. He hasn't decided yet what his next conquest will be. Maybe he will use his charms on the banker's daughter to get inside information. Or perhaps he'll seduce the local cattle baron's wife to get the money he doesn't trust the bank to protect. Either way, if all goes according to plan he can be out of this town before his wanted posters, or his former lady friends, catch up to him.
