This job was just about the best thing that could happen. As a young engineer just starting out in my career, the opportunity to move to this town, start a new life, and start what could hopefully be a great career was just a blessing! Having worked pretty hard (but not too hard) in college to do well, and having swam through the job minefield, I finally landed an entry level position at a good company as an engineer. It was a wonderful chance to get my life going.

I had only moved here about 3 weeks ago and started my job a week after I had moved in. So far I had liked everything about this job and I was feeling pretty good about it. Having gotten comfortable with it, I decided to take a little break after work was done to walk around the town and check it out. This coffee shop was a block and a half from my studio apartment and it was by chance that I decided to check it out.

I walked in and smiled at the pleasant atmosphere. I got in line to get myself a latte (which I rarely do). And it was while I was in line that I saw you. You were along one of the walls, at a table of your own, and your looks and demeanor instantly attracted me to you. You were one of those cute hipster girls around town I saw. Maybe you worked at the local alternative radio station, or at an art gallery, or something else. In any case, I was really drawn to you. You seemed different than everything I had surrounded myself with...and that really appealed to me.

As you typed and scrolled away at your laptop, you seemed so comfortable with yourself. Yet, I thought I could detect a little sense of loneliness from you. I knew I had to talk to you. So after getting my drink I slowly and casually walked over to the table you were sitting at. I worked myself up a little bit, not being the most socially graceful type, and put on a little smile as I spoke up softly and said "Hey...is this seat taken?"
