Post Body

I am a younger European man in my early-to-mid 20s with a passion for the 19th century – the Victorian era, you could say, although that is a very country specific label – and its history and (male) fashion, who would love to talk with and perhaps befriend another fan of the period. My ideal conversation partner is an older gentleman, ideally 35 years old at the very least.

I’ve appreciated the suited look for a very long time, and of course, much more than the standard business suit, I fell in love with the much rarer specimen mostly seen only in movies nowadays – the vintage and elegant gentlemen from the later half of the 19th century, with his dapper jacket, elaborate waistcoat, and importantly, his stylish facial hair, the perfect tool for male self-expression, whether we’re talking impressively long beard, masculine muttonchops or a perfectly cared for handlebar moustache. Explaining aesthetic preferences can be often difficult, since for the one trying to express his love of something, the reasons feel self-evident.

My love for the period’s fashion had long remained confined to just seeking and enjoying period dramas, but I was lucky enough to be inspired by an acquaintance to bigger confidence in starting to dress a little bit more formally; no, I do not go around in Victorian clothes, even though I wish it was a perfectly normal thing to do; but I do enjoy dressing well. I don’t own any vintage clothes, although I would love to; I’ve heard of things like historical reenactments and historical clothing hobbyists, but I have no idea if anything like that ever takes place where I am.

My love of the 19th century isn’t related only to its aesthetics. I find it perhaps the most interesting time to read about; the century of great changes, the birth of the modern world… From the industrial and political revolutions, to international politics, and to the development of the workers‘ movements.

So – if there is anyone who shares this interest and attraction to a very specific time, I’ll be happy to see your message, despite realizing it’s quite unlikely to be found in this specific forum. But conversation posts are also allowed, in among all the roleplay prompts, so why wouldn’t I try, right?
