With my birthday being on November 1st, October and the spooky season have always been my favorite way to countdown to my birthday. I love all things spooky and Halloween. The other 11 months are spent with me planning out which haunted attractions to visit during the month before time’s up. Annual trips to Halloween Horror Nights are a must! That’s when I see an ad for an indie haunt that grabs my attention while searching for new spots for this year.

They claim to have an incredible budget, but it’s only one “house” or maze. I look up the address and it’s an old medical facility that’s been leased out to whoever is running this and wow have they really built it up according to their photos. Sure it’s only one house, but it’s done UP. They’re really leaning into the medical theming too. I dig deeper into their site and notice it’s reservation based. “To ensure a properly immersive and intimate experience”

The disclaimer on the site is in a big red box warning me about the expectation that the actors can and will touch and grab me. That’s not something I typically see when there’s this much money involved in the production. The photos of the actors are all mostly men in either scrubs, patient gowns, and other themed garb but so many of them are hardly clothed. Spooky and sexy. I love it! This has to be how I spend my Halloween!

I quickly buy a time slot for 8PM on Halloween and pick out an outfit for my 5’2 frame. I don my purple doc marten platform boots, black fishnets, and a black leather skirt. Above I’m wearing a black harness corset with a low cut v neck that props my 32Cs on display. A long necklace with a gemstone shard rests in my cleavage. Bats hang

My phone pings with an email for a release form which I usually expect with typical “extreme” haunts. I don’t bother reading it through. If I had, I would’ve seen the mentions of groping, clothing removal, and sex. This is going to be a Halloween I’ll never forget.

Expecting there to be a bar of some sorts, I uber to the facility and check in with the gate agent who takes my forms and ID. “Happy early birthday.” He says with a sly wink as he hands my license back to me and unlocks the gate for me to slide in to. This whole process reminds me of the Saw escape room in Las Vegas. Themed from the absolute get go! The walk up to the main building feels eternal but every step has me more and more excited. I reach the main door and pull on the door. The facility looks state of the art instead of abandoned and decrepit. The run down spots must be later on in the path. Most of the lights are out except for one hallway. A subtle hint to tell me where to go. My boots thud with an echo throughout. I didn’t think I’d be the only participant for the time slot. Happy Halloween to me…
