The key to this is you either being able to write dialogue in a foreign language, or at least running it through a translate app. I want the communication to be more unspoken, expressed through primal sounds. Katie and Derrick were supposed to be having a romantic trip. After all, they were celebrating their two year anniversary of dating. Or, maybe they were off on one last ride before everything fell apart. The relationship had been sputtering for months now. They had booked an ocean-side villa with a lovely balcony that overlooked the water. They had planned the ultimate romantic trip, but Katie was feeling anything but romantic with Derrick lately. He'd been less and less invested in the relationship, spending more time with his friends and going AWOL whenever she really needed his help. They'd been arguing about where they were going to go after college, and the disagreements felt like they couldn't be overcome.

And then, Derrick had to go and propose to her. At dinner. Of fucking course he'd do that without talking to her. And of course Katie said no. How could she say yes? Things were falling apart, and this was his way of trying to lock her down while putting in the minimal effort. Just one grand gesture and then that's it.

And of course, he stormed off sulking. Katie stood there in shock, trying to process everything as she receives a text message from Derrick.

*I'm leaving. I'm going back to America. Have fun without me.*

Katie sat down at the table, wondering what on earth she was supposed to do now.
