The course had been a whirlwind but a lot of interesting drama was discovered. After the online course finished, they kept in touch. From there their friendship blossomed. While studying, they discovered they had similar interest in authors of science fiction and fantasy. Then they discovered they liked the same bands and agreed that music was always better with actual instruments. They spoke about favorite movies and tv shows they both liked. Even having phone conversations just quoting funny lines from the shows. They learned that they grew up in the same province, only a few hours away from each other. Finding out they both visited the same amusement parks.

What he didn’t share with her was He was completely blind. He read all his books through braille or audio books. He watched all his favorite movies with audio description. He got front of the line access to rides at amusement parks because of his disability.

He didn’t tell her at first, because they were just partners working on a project. Then as their friendship grew, he never really found the right timing. Honestly, he thought of it as just a trait, like someone being left handed or speaking a second language. Matt hoped for the first time in his life he could be seen as “funny Matt”, or “cute Matt”, or even “my boyfriend Matt”, not “blind Matt”.

Their schedules had finally aligned. Tonight Matt decided they could go to a restaurant in her city and have a nice time. This would be the chance to see if what they had over the phone would work in person. Maybe do a little flirting, kissing, touching.
