Dave from work didn't give me much of a hint of what I was about to walk into. He knew my wife and son were away for the weekend, so he said come to a party at his place. Lots of people will be there and there will be plenty of booze (and anything else we wanted to get our hands on!).

That was it...except for one more instruction as I was walking out the door to go home one cool Friday afternoon: "Oh, and...bring a mask!" He said in a sly, playful voice as his mouth curled into a naughty grin.

Bring a mask? What kind of mask? What for? Well, I have a goblin mask from a Halloween party years ago. I went as Jareth from The Labyrinth.

Luckily, this was exactly what I needed!

I arrived that night around 9 PM in jeans and a black button up shirt and my mask in my hand. Dave met me at the door and barred me from entry initially.

"No one can enter without their mask on, Max. There are important people in there and lots of married women. The only way to keep identities safe...and to let people be free to explore their desires...is to put that mask on and keep it on no matter what happens. That is the only rule! Everything else is fair game!"

I was in a daze by what my old buddy I had known for almost 20 years was telling me. A mask party? No rules? But I was too intrigued not to go in and find out what he was talking about, so I threw on my black goblin mask with its sharp, pointy nose and Dave held the door open wide for me.

"Ready to explore your hottest desires?" Dave chided as I looked into his large, 3-bedroom apartment and saw a whole host of men and women wearing all kinds of clothing, both formal and highly casual, chatting, eating and flirting with each other. The only common thread seemed to be the mask.

I had no idea what I was walking into, but that night changed my life....
