You were elated.
You'd sent your portfolio to a dozen companies. Some more practical than others. So far you'd gotten nothing but rejection. But here it was. Your number one choice, not only telling you that you had aced the interview loop, but had been so impressive that they wanted to offer you a per diem of you chose to spend your summer with their firm.
Then it hit you. Their headquarters is clear across the country. A sinking feeling. How would you even find a place to stay, let alone handle the other myriad logistical issues this brought up. Luckily, your dad has a college buddy. As it turns out this buddy is recently an empty-nester and does pretty well for himself. So whether or of nostalgic loyalty or the kindness of his heart, this"buddy" solved nearly all your issues.
Staying almost 4 months with a middle aged man wasn't exactly the first foray into the real world you'd hoped for, but you told yourself there would be plenty of time for adventure. You're not sure what you expected, but when he opened the door to his condo he definitely surprised you. The fact that this man was your dad's age was shocking. He definitely seemed to have genetics on his side. Maybe this summer would be more fun than you thought.
