In school, you were only partly an adult, but still very sheltered from the real world. On your own, you would have to hold a job, cook for yourself, and find your own place to live. And the last one was the sticking point for you, as you had a great job lined up, but it was in a city on the other side of the country, and the housing market there was absolutely crazy.

When you confided this to your mom, she informed you that your aunt owned a property just outside the city, a huge house, inherited from her wife's family. The house was rented out to a number of tenants, but there was space for you if you wanted to live there too. The only issue was that the tenants of the house were, unique to say the least.
