It was a beautiful July afternoon and one of my closest friends was getting married! Such a fun beautiful day ahead I thought to myself. As we were getting ready the excitement in the room was contagious. Everyone was smiling and joking around, so happy to be celebrating our buddy John. He was the type of guy that would give you the shirt off his back. He was kind to everyone, too kind perhaps. Didn’t have a bad bone in his body. His wife was the same way, just a lovely couple. My wife and I have been on countless double dates with them and we consider them family. Thats why when we went out to eat with them months ago we were worried when they said they had to talk to us about something.

“Mike” Jenn started out firmly while we sat at the table. “You know I have to invite (your name) my cousin to the wedding. I know you guys ended pretty badly and I just wanted to kind of put it out there. I’m sorry don’t hate me”

I laughed and replied “Jenn I could never hate you. She’s family after all! Don’t be silly. That was so long ago and plus I have the prettiest wife ever so it all works out for a reason!” I smiled and grabbed my wife’s hand, clearly easing the tension at the table and allowing us to have a good night. On the way home my wife asked if I was bothered at all and I simply smiled back and said “why would I be? I have you and that’s all I need!”

After she went to bed I finally allowed the panic to be felt. (Your name) fucking crushed me. It took so long to get over. She was such a bitch but my god she was the best I’ve ever had. I did things with her I could never even bring up to my wife. She was filthy and I loved every second of it. I don’t want to see her, but I have no choice.

As the bus arrives and we all get on, my heart starts to slowly sink as I realize what’s going to be coming at the church. As we arrive I step off and get ready to do my duties as an usher. I take a deep breath and open the doors..
