1) A Boy In Need, A Life Signed Away

You were quite shocked to be awoken at 3 am by a banging on the door. Even more surprised to open it to find your son's college friend standing in the rain, drenched and shivering. When he told you of his troubles over a warm cup of tea, you were stunned. He was on the run, in desperate need of hiding for quite some time. It was a nice surprise to hear how highly he thought of your son and how, knowing you lived in the area, he thought he could turn to you. It would be his turn to be shocked when he finds out what it would take to make it worth your while.

A contract is drawn up. He reads through it, barely skimming the most important parts. Some are obvious; he has to stay hidden so as not to draw unsavoury attention to his selfless saviour. He will work in the house to earn his keep. There were some other clauses in there, of course - many that would make anyone, no matter how desperate, think twice. But he signs the dotted line, thanking you profusely, and in doing so gives his body over to you. His life is in your hands now.

2) A Broken Marriage, Ashes From Which to Rise

The relationship had been born out of real attraction. I was, after all, a sweetheart. Co-founder of a large tech company, well off and caring, devoted, what's not to like?
