Another Saturday, another day at the bar, not that you minded spending your days here ever since your last partner had to leave town. You were not really feeling it anymore, standing on stage all alone. Your voice was still clear, your lyrics on point, but even the non-musicians in the crowd noticed that the passion was missing, the big emotions that used to carry music from your skilled vocal cords to the crowd...it wasn't quite there anymore.

You decided to end the concert early, it was not really a concert anyway, just a little gig you played on the weekends in your favourite bar, it has never been enough to pay the bills which meant that soon you would have to go back to your boring day life again.

As you left the stage early, you saw someone approaching you, a new girl. You knew almost everyone who came to this bar; this girl was certainly not from here. She had long, fluffy hair and big brown eyes. She seemed to have a rather cute body under her long, wide dress. As she was heading to the stage, your eyes met; she smiled quickly, seeming nervous as she took your place. You turned away to talk to the owner and collect your tips collected in a big jar at the bar while you played, as she set everything up. It was typical that one artist performed right after the other, and while you received your money, you heard the girl introduce herself. Her voice was sweet but had something profound mixed alongside, ethereal and dark at the same time; something was special about her.

The girl turned out to be new after all. She introduced herself as Beth, who had recently moved here from Germany and was having her first show tonight. You remembered fondly the first time you had played on that stage, still with your (musical) partner, how excited and nervous you had been.

Beth began with just her acoustic guitar and her voice. She sang slow rock and pop, primarily covers, and while they were done well, you were not interested too much; she also had a few songs you had never heard before and claimed to have composed herself. They sounded unlike professional music, and you were intrigued; maybe that was your chance to find a new partner or someone to write music with, a like-minded individual, a musician who never made it. As Beth moved off the stage, unaware of where to collect the tips, you saw your chance.
