Boy it's a hot one. Not even into July, and it's pushing 90 already. Another week, and I'll have to reinvest in an AC unit. That or get real comfortable in my underwear.
I stand up from shoveling more dirt for the pool to go with the hot tub, taking the hem of my tank top and wiping the sweat from my brow. I'm not even closed to finished, and the backhoe won't come in for another week, if I can even get into the backyard somehow.
I rest my arm on the shaft of the shovel, the sharp end sticking into the dirt and look around at how far I've gone, only to be slightly demoralized, as it currently just looks small enough for a barely dug grave.
I let the shovel stay stuck in the dirt, pull my tank top off and grab my jug of water, dumping some of it onto my head, then take a big swig.
With my back to the house, I hear that familiar voice.
"Dad! Hey!" You exclaim from the sliding glass door, and surprised, I swivel around, to see you in that cute little pink and white get-up, a pair of flip flops etching a tan line into your toes, and your long hair, done up in a messy bun.
"Well hey there! Aren't you a sight for sore eyes! Don't just stand there. Come give your old man a hug!"
