One of the things I’ve found interesting getting older is that identity isn’t as hard and fast as thing as we like to think it is. You think you’re a certain type of person, and then something happens, and it turns out you’re not that sort of person at all. Like that line from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, “I’m not a coward, I’ve just never been tested.” Well, as you get older, the odds of those things we think to be true about ourselves being tested increases.

I know, I know, you didn’t come here to hear some dude wax philosophical about the nature of identity. You want sex dammit! And the more the depraved the better. Well, that’s what I’m getting to. I’ve always had a soft spot for sweet, innocent seeming types who have a wild streak a mile wide. You know, the “one time at band camp…” types. They seem like the embodiment of wholesome, but are at their happiest when there’s a lot of some in there holes. Yeah, I know, that bit of word play didn’t quite work, but moving on.

As a subcategory of this interest of mine, I’m fascinated by people who have a watershed moment. They were something before it and they’re something different after. Perhaps not wholly changed, but something’s new. So, the girl who’s never been into sex or porn or what have you but they meet someone and a light bulb goes off…and a vibrator switches on. (Geez, I’m usually better with wordplay than this). Or they were a sweet and loyal wife and a new neighbor moved in that showed them some possibilities. A business woman goes to a convention and defies some conventions. Essentially, I like people who surprise themselves and knowing what about drove them to that. Was it circumstance? An unexpected appeal in something they’d never thought about before. I don’t know. I’m a big fan of serendipity…especially as it relates to sex.
